a visit from a cardinal !
To have a Cardinal visit the Museum for the very first time is truly an honour! Even more so when that Cardinal is Hong Kong’s Joseph Zen, one of the leading opponents of the current Chinese regime!
This courageous man does not shirk denouncing the injustices and frustrations in Hong Kong’s present political situation. Zen plays an important role in the matter of the Church in China and adopts a firm stance against Beijing’s regime.
This official visit to Canada and the United States is for him an opportunity to apprise his friends of the particularly tense and difficult situation in Hong Kong. As resolute as ever even at 85, few would suspect that behind the Cardinal’s calm and conciliatory manner is a staunch and courageous defender of democracy.
A friend of the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of many years, Cardinal Joseph Zen insisted on stopping by their Mother House. A memorable meeting, and powerful reminder that courage is stronger than fear…
